Shirley M. Bartels

Shirley M. Bartels, 81, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday February 17, 2016 at a Sioux City nursing home.

Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday April 29 2016 in Logan Park Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Eric Sayonkon of St. James United Methodist Church officiating.

Shirley was born October 5, 1934 in Sgt. Bluff, Iowa the daughter of Robie and Maxine (Dahms) Nickols. Shirley Nickols married James Bartels on August 16, 1951 in Fremont, Nebraska. Into this marriage three children were born.

Shirley was employed with the Sioux City Community Schools in the main kitchen serving for 20 years and retiring in 1991. She enjoyed decorating around the house, collecting sun flowers, anything leopard and had a vast collection of hand bells from around the country and anything cardinals.

Mrs. Bartels was a 55-year member of St. James United Methodist Church.

Shirley is survived daughter Jeri Ann Bartels of Elk Grove, CA; daughter Renee McNaughton and her husband Denny of Sioux City; son Rick A. Bartels of Sioux City; brother Phil Nickols and his wife Rita of Thornton, CO; grandchildren Shane McNaughton and Amanda Rose; several great-grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one brother Robie D. Nickols.
