Nicholas Wiltgen, age 39, of Atlanta, GA, formerly of South Sioux City, NE, passed away on January 24, 2016. Memorial Services were conducted by The Weather Channel in Atlanta on January 30, 2016. Private services will be held by the family at a later date. Online condolences may be given at

Nick was born in St. Joseph, MO on August 31, 1976 and moved with his parents to South Sioux City, NE at the age of one. He attended South Sioux City Schools through 9th grade. He graduated from Heelan High School, Sioux City, IA in 1994. While at Heelan, he participated on the Debate Team and won several honors. He was a paper boy for the Sioux City Journal while growing up and followed with part-time work in the Sports Department while in high school. He attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where he majored in Meteorology and minored in French. While at Nebraska, he was on the staff of the Daily Nebraskan and was a DJ for radio station KFRX. He graduated from UNL in 1998 and was employed by Planalytics in Omaha. He was transferred to Pennsylvania where he remained until 2001. He joined the Weather Channel in October, 2001 as a Radio Broadcast Meteorologist and was heard on several radio stations including WGN/Chicago, WLS(AM)/Chicago, WBAP/Dallas, KLBJ(AM)/Austin, WSYR/Syracuse, KFAB/Omaha, and WRSA(Lite 96.9)/Huntsville, as well as local traffic and weather channels on SiriusXM Satellite Radio. In 2012 he became a part of the Digital Meteorology Team and was promoted to supervisor in December, 2014. He loved working for the Weather Channel and used his extensive knowledge of languages as an aid to his work. He was a member of the American Meteorological Society.
Nick is survived by his parents Ed and Mary Wiltgen of South Sioux City, NE; his brother Patrick (Trisha) Wiltgen of South Sioux City; brother Steve (Nick) of San Jose, CA; sister, Amanda (Jon) Taylor of Ralston, NE; nieces Ava and Sophie Wiltgen and nephew, Dominic Wiltgen all of South Sioux City, NE as well as aunts, uncles and cousins. He is also survived by his loving Weather Channel family of Atlanta, GA and close friends.
Nick was preceded in death by grandparents, Ed and Phyllis Wiltgen of Sioux City, IA and Rush and Mildred Haley of College Grove, TN; and an uncle, Russell Wiltgen of Des Moines, IA.
