Anna Marie Nieman, 85, of Sioux City passed away Monday, February 8, 2016, at Westwood Specialty Care.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Scott Squires officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Ponca (Nebraska) Cemetery. Anna Marie was born the daughter of Stanley S. and Clara M. (Berens) Gasser on August 8, 1930, in Ponca, Neb. She attended Silver Creek District 19 grade school and graduated from Ponca High School in 1947. She married Albert (Babe) LeRoy Nieman on October 19, 1947, in Ponca, Neb. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Sioux City.
Anna worked at Sears in Sioux City for 30 years, retiring March 1, 1991.
Anna was a devoted wife and mother, and family meant everything to her. She enjoyed fishing and camping trips with her family in Minnesota. She always had cookies in the cookie jar and a cake on the kitchen counter for when family and friends would drop by. You never left Anna Marie’s kitchen hungry. Anna and Albert enjoyed traveling and sightseeing during their retirement years.
Anna is survived by a son, Doug (Sandee) Nieman of Le Mars, Iowa; a daughter, Cheryl (Kevin) Hurlbert of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Sheli, Dawn, Kimberly, Trisha, Heather, Kristopher and Krystal; 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Clara Gasser; her husband, Albert; a brother, Vernon S. Gasser, who was killed during active duty aboard the USS Savannah in WW2 and buried at sea; one sister, Ida A. Olsen; and a brother-in-law, Harold R. Olsen.
