Delores M. Kovarna, 89, of Merrill, IA passed away on Wednesday, February 03, 2016 at the Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars, IA.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Hinton United Methodist Church in Hinton, IA. Pastor Kolleen Queener will officiate. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Delores was born January 25, 1927 in Merrill, IA; she was the daughter of Arthur and Frances (Friske) Philips. Delores grew up in the Hinton and Merrill areas and graduated from Liberty Consolidated High School.

She married Robert “Bob” Kovarna November 5, 1947 in Hinton, IA; Bob passed away on September 19, 1994 in LeMars. Delores and Bob farmed in the Merrill area for many years.

Delores was a longtime member of the Hinton United Methodist Church and helped with making peanut brittle. She loved to travel with Bob, go to coffee with her friends, ride her 4 wheeler and spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her son: Randy and his wife Suzan of Merrill, IA; 2 grandchildren: Jeff Kovarna and his wife Sarah and Julee Kovarna and her significant other Todd Pick; great grandchildren: Madison, Ashlyn, Karlyn Kovarna and Hunter Pick and Todd’s children: Beau and Veda Pick; 4 sisters in law: Norma Philips of Merrill, IA, Lois Newberg of Hinton, IA, Delores Parry of CA, Wilma Kovarna of Sioux City; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and close friends LaDonna Newberg and Ardie Arndt.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob Kovarna, her brother: Lowell Philips; 5 brothers in law: Donald Kovarna (Eileen), Stanley Kovarna (Alma), Bedford Newberg, Marvin Kovarna and Wendell Parry.
