Larry M. Claeys, 73 of Sioux City passed away on Monday, February 01, 2016 at a local care facility in Sioux City surrounded by his physical family to meet his spiritual family.
Private family services will be held on Thursday. There will be a visitation open to the public from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. and a pubic Vigil service at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Larry was born August 4, 1942 in Akron, IA; he was the son of Arthur and Wilma Ericson. Larry graduated from Heelan High School in 1960 and then decided to serve in the U.S. Navy.
He was married to Mary Lou Bosuego from 1963 to 1979 and they had to two sons. Larry was then married to Susan (Lyle) Teel from 1980 to 1990 who brought into his life his daughter. Finally, he married his loving wife and best friend, Cheryl (Davis) Wetzel, on June 4, 2004 with 15 years of togetherness prior to their marriage.
As a young man, Larry worked for Pete’s Paint, W.A. Klinger and then finally retiring from Klinger Properties as a Certified Property Manager and as Vice President after 42 years.
Larry served at president of (IREM) Institute of Real Estate Management and (AHMA) Affordable Housing Management Association which he helped start. He held a CPM (Certified Property Manager) designation as well.
He enjoyed painting, reading, fishing, canoeing, camping and spending time with family. He was very involved in Boy Scouts, River-cade, (which he served as Commodore and was on the board for several years) and the Renaissance Festival which he was instrumental in putting together the first festival. He was well known for his generosity, big personality and heartfelt “hello darlin”.
Survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife Cheryl of Sioux City; 3 children: Bill Claeys (Robyn) of Sioux City, Lon Claeys (Kamilla) of Sioux City, Kris Larsen (Jon) of Clive, IA; his brothers and sisters: Patricia Wolf (Ron) of Sioux City, Tom Claeys (Karen) of Hinton, IA, Phil Claeys of Sioux City, Don Claeys (Lisa) of Sioux City; his brother in-laws Brian Davis of Sioux City and Kevin Davis of Davie Florida; 13 grandchildren: Noah Claeys, Hanna Linduski (Chris), Grace Claeys, Lydia Claeys, Hallelujah Claeys, Elijah Claeys, Ian Claeys, Collin Claeys, Simon Claeys, Isabella Larsen, Olivia Larsen, Ava Larsen and Luke Larsen; a great granddaughter: Maeve Linduski. He also had several neices, nephews and cousiins.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers: Jim and Bill and a grandson: Lawrence Daniel Claeys.
