Richard John “Dick” Schwartzmyer, age 76, of Yankton, South Dakota, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2016, at Majestic Bluffs in Yankton. A memorial visitation will be held from 5 PM to 7 PM on Thursday, January 28, 2016, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be posted at www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Dick was born to John and Elizabeth (Schneiders) Schwartzmyer on August 15, 1939. Dick graduated from Heelan High School in 1958. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in Hawaii as an Aviation Electronics Technician Third Class. He married Barb Newman on December 31, 1973. They were later divorced. Dick worked for Zenith as an Incoming Quality Control Manager and was transferred to Taipei, Taiwan in 1974. He then worked for Disston Company in Danville, Virginia from 1980 until 1990. In 1992, Dick moved to Yankton, South Dakota and worked as a Quality Control Technician at CR Industries in Springfield, South Dakota. He was an avid ham radio operator and had many skills such as woodcarving, painting and genealogy. He often commented that he wished he had been born 30 years later so that he could enjoy more of today’s electronic technology.
Survivors include: three nephews: Tom Winter and wife Dorothy of Fremont, Nebraska; Roger Winter and wife Annette of Sioux City; and Randy Winter and wife Deb of Sioux City; and a niece Susan Crawmer and husband John of Panora, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters Teresa and Betty; and a niece Amy Winter.
