October 28, 1940 — January 19, 2016

Gerald P. “Jerry” Heibel, 75, of Sioux City passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at a Sioux City Hospital. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 25, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. A flag presentation will be provided by the Sioux City Police Honor Guard in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Jerry was born on October 28, 1940 in Tripp, SD to Phillip and Hattie (Buechler) Heibel. He served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves. He also served the City of Sioux City as a Police Officer for over 20 years retiring in 2000. He was united in marriage to Dianna Elgert on July 2, 1959 in Pipe Stone, MN.

Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating, and riding his motorcycle. Jerry valued his time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a people person, able to make friends easily with a fair and just personality. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Policeman’s Association, and was Policeman of the Year in 1976 along with receiving many letters of accommodation. 

He is survived by his wife Dianna Heibel of Sioux City; son Kenneth Heibel and special friend Teresa Carmen of Sioux City; daughter Lisa (Skip) Christensen of McCook Lake, SD; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and a brother in-law Cecil Horn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Betty Horn.
