James, S. “Jim” Franks, 73, of Sioux City passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at his home. Per his wishes, he was cremated. Memorial services will be on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time on Tuesday at the church. He graduated from Central High School. Jim spent the majority of his working career as a Jeweler. He worked for 10 years at Greenberg Jewelers. He later ran his own Kiosk with his wife in the mall and owned and operated Lee and Sherman Jewelers. He was united in marriage to Judy Nelson on September 30, 1967 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Sioux City. Jim was a member of the Drum Corp and Drums Across America. Aside from his musical talents, he loved writing poetry and stories for his family. He enjoyed wood working, and building ships and cars for his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing and was an avid Chicago Bears fan. Among all his talents and interests, spending time with his family and grandchildren was the most important thing in his life. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and was a Mason. He is survived by his wife Judy Franks of Sioux City; 3 daughters Angela M. (Steve) Rennie of Kansas City, MO; Shelly L. (Quentin) Detches of Sioux City; and Renae M. Franks and finance Matt Nebit of Sioux City; 8 grandchildren, Alexandria, Cody, Dakota, Bailey, Tyler, Michael, Ava, and Zoey; 6 great grandchildren, Rowan, River, Gabe, Liam, Cash and Paisley; 2 sisters Kay Harder of Ponca, NE; and Katie (Ronnie) Stephan of South Sioux City, NE. He was preceded in death by his father, mother Pearl Poole, sister Jeri, brothers Ed, Bill and Bob and a great grandson Gavin.
