James P. Andersen

James P. Andersen, 84, of Sioux City passed away Friday, January 1, 2016 at a local hospital.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Jerome Cosgrove officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. with the family present from 6-8 P.M. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. Monday, January 4, 2015 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. James was born February 23, 1931 in Viborg, SD the son of Richard and Gertie (Christensen) Andersen. He attended Sioux City Schools. James married Mary Gomez on July 18, 1949 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. He worked as a tree trimmer for the City of Sioux City for 15 years, and Iowa Public Service (Now MidAmerican) for 16 years before retirement.

James loved watching sports, old westerns and old movies, but his greatest joy was bird watching and spending time with his grandchildren. James was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, acting as an usher, greeter and working funeral dinners. He also volunteered at the Soup Kitchen and was a member of the Sojourners Group in Sioux City.

James is survived by his wife Mary Andersen, children: James P. (Sandra) Andersen of Boone, IA, Marlana J. (Monte) Winkelman of Sioux City, Roberta A. (Mark) Miller of Scottsdale, AZ, and Michelle L. Andersen and significant other Chad Hamilton of Sioux City; grandchildren: Peter, Kelly, Justin, James, and Mark Jr.; 8 great grandchildren; and two sisters: Marian Ream of Sheldon, IA and Joyce Miller of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Arlan, Glenn, John, and Kenneth, and sisters: Carmel, JoAnn, and Phyllis.
