Lawrence E. Simon, 76, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, December 19, 2015 at a local hospital.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at St. Michael Catholic Church with Father David Hemann officiating. Visitation will be Monday, December 21, 2015 from 4-8 P.M. with the family present from 6-8 P.M. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Lawrence was born June 9, 1939 in Sioux City, the son of Martin and Minnie (Jorgensen) Simon. He attended St. Boniface and graduated from Heelan High School in 1958. He enlisted in the United States Marines and was a member of the 185th Iowa Air National Guard. Lawrence married Patricia Mercure on July 16, 1960 in Sioux City. He spent his career working for Sioux Tools for 43 years before retiring.
Lawrence enjoyed reading history about the Civil War, gardening, watching NASCAR, and cheering on his favorite Chicago Bears. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.
Lawrence is survived by his wife Pat Simon; children: Larry (Arelene) Simon, Mary Torgerson, Mark Simon, Carol (Dan) Harder, and Matt (Jennifer) Simon; 15 grandchildren: Lindie, Stephanie, Christie, Taylor, Caitlin, Vanessa, Zachary, Laurie, Dylan, William, Sam, Conner, Ashlyn, Chloe and Madelyn; 8 great grandchildren: Ava, Gavin, Evie, Cael, Olivia, Duke, Viktor and Ally; brothers: Martin (Bonnie) Simon and John (Sandi) Simon; and a sister Virginia Krier.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son in law Van Torgerson, and brother in law Ron Krier.
