Jean M., daughter of Harry and Loretta (Wetrosky) Porsch, was born April 14, 1936, in Kingsley, Iowa. She was raised at Westfield where she graduated from Westfield High School.
On January 15, 1956, Jean was united in marriage with Darius Smith in Sioux City. Three children were born to this union. Jean and Darius made their home in Sioux City where Jean worked at St. Luke’s Hospital, Wincharger, Zenith and Durapac.
Jean was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and was active in the union when she worked at Zenith. She had a variety of interests including: watching the Sci Fi Channel and Days Of Our Lives, reading romance novels, gardening, taking care of her animals, going to country concerts, watching the singer Pit Bull and Green Day, and being on her IPhone and Twitter. Jean was a diehard Democrat. She always liked to be in the middle of the conversation and while she was sassy and witty, Jean was always positive. Above all, she enjoyed watching her granddaughters grow.
Jean is survived by three children: Darius Smith Jr., of Sioux City; Gina Hasler and husband Stevin of Sioux City; Jana Miller of Ankeny; two granddaughters: Renee Hasler and Jessie Miller; a sister Joy Porsch of Akron; two brothers: Gale Porsch of Akron and Neal Porsch of Sioux City; a sister-in-law Karon Porsch; a brother-in-law Jim Heck; and by other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother Terry Porsch; a sister Judy Heck; and many in-laws including: Joe Caskey, Darlene Jones and Vera Smith.
