Daniel Joseph “Dan Joe” Cooper, 74 of Moville, Iowa passed away from a brief illness at a Sioux City hospital on Friday, December 4, 2015. At Dan Joe’s request, no services will be held. Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel has assisted the family with arrangements. Dan Joe was born to the late Vernon and Leona (Wetrosky) Cooper, February 7, 1941 at home in Correctionville, Ia. He attended country school, Washta and Woodbury Central schools. He married the late Linda Seeley in 1966. Of this short union they had a daughter Kelly. Dan Joe married Mary Verdugo in 1992. They later divorced. Dan Joe was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Kelly, sister-in-law M. Eileen Cooper and brother-in-law James Dunnington. Dan Joe is survived by his brothers and sisters, Dale Cooper of Moville, IA; Pat Dunnington of Wickenburg, AZ; Kathy (Donald) Brookbank of Holstein, IA; Virginia (Randolph) Batts of Turkey, NC; Dennis Cooper of Correctionville, IA; and Donald (Barb) Cooper of Cherokee, IA. Dan Joe had 12 nieces and nephews, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. Daniel worked at many places: Dixon Brother’s Construction, Simonsen’s, Lundell's, Rodda Mack Shop and Schaeff. He was a welder for 26 years. He retired from Schaeff in 2002. He spent most of his life in Moville. He was baptized at Rock Branch Methodist Church. Dan Joe was an avid collector of toy John Deere tractors. He loved gardening and helping his neighbors with their cattle. He was the care taker of the Wetrosky Cemetery in Plymouth County in Iowa. His favorite singer was Elvis Presley. One of the greatest joys of his life was being reunited with his daughter in 2014. He had searched for her for 47 years. Dan Joe felt blessed to have been able to spend the last 6 months of her life with her.
