Ken was born February 8, 1943 in Castana, IA, the son of Valerie Otto and Harold Maaske. He graduated from Central High School. He was married to Tammy Simoni on September 5, 1964 in South Sioux City, they were high school sweethearts.
Ken spent 25 years working at Sioux Plating. He changed occupations and went back to school to become an orthotist and worked for American Prosthetics Inc. for 20 years then retired in 2008. He was a hard worker, he began working as a paperboy, then on the farm as a young boy to help his mother support his family.
Family has always been the most important aspect throughout Ken’s life. Ken was a sports enthusiast. His favorite sport was whatever his children or grandchildren were playing. He never missed a game and was always their biggest fan throughout his life. He played softball, basketball and was an avid golfer. He loved the Miami Dolphins, Iowa Hawkeyes and Tennessee Vols. He enjoyed playing games with his family, cards, penny poker and dice, anything to spend time with his family. He loved to dance and teaching the rest of the family was a popular request.
He touched the lives of so many, his sense of humor was one of a kind whether he was telling a “story” or teasing a niece or nephew, you could always count on him to make you laugh. His circle of friends was endless, he spent time laughing and sharing memories on the golf course including the 19th hole, at ballparks, casinos, and several trips to Phoenix.
If you needed a friend, you could always count on Ken to keep your confidences.
