William Van Lent

William Van Lent, 82, of Emerson, Nebraska, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at his home. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emerson, Nebraska. Visitation will be Friday, December 4, 2015, from 4 till 8 p.m. and Vigil service at 7 p.m. with the family present from 6 till 8 p.m. at the church. William was born April 18, 1933, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Anthony and Veronica (Ryan) Van Lent. He attended Sacred Heart School in Emerson, Nebraska, and graduated in 1951. Following graduation, he attended Creighton University and Kansas State College. William was drafted into the United States Army and served from 1953 until 1955. After returning from his service duty he married Marlene Huggenberger at Sacred Heart Church in Emerson, Nebraska, in 1956. William was employed with the Standard Oil Station in Emerson; Brandt Grain Elevator in Emerson; Walbaum's in Wakefield as a route buyer, and retired with the USDA as a Meat Inspector working plants in Nebraska and California. William was a member of Sacred Heart Church where he served on the Church Council, American Legion # 60 in Emerson, and the the Dixon County Zoning Commission. William is survived by his wife Marlene of Emerson, NE; daughter Diane (Greg) Bedenkop of Dallas, TX; sons William (Teri) Van Lent of West Des Moines, IA,;James (Eva) Van Lent of Omaha, NE; and Jeffrey (Deb) Van Lent of Lincoln, NE. Eleven grandchildren: Nick, Hannah, and Hope Bedenkop of Dallas, TX; Cyrus Van Lent of San Diego, CA; Aly and Cole Van Lent of West Des Moines,IA; Jacob (Jaimie) Van Lent of Lincoln, NE; Alex Van Lent of Omaha, NE; Sam Van Lent of South Bend, IN; Sophie Van Lent and Emily Falloon of Lincoln, NE; and sister Eileen Van Lent of Lincoln, NE. Bill had a special relationship with his spouse's extended family,brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces, and nephews. William was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Carmelite Nuns at 2901 S. Cecelia Street, Sioux City, IA 51106; Hospice of Siouxland; or the charity of your choice.
