Shirley Marie Strom

November 16, 1930 — November 22, 2015

Shirley Marie Strom, 85, of Sioux City, peacefully passed away on Sunday, Nov. 22, surrounded by her loving family at her home.

Services are scheduled at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, with visitation at noon, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd., with Reverend Monsignor Mark Duchaine officiating. A private burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

She was born Nov. 16, 1930, in Roselle, Iowa, to William J. and Josephine F. M. Anthofer (Sturm). She lived in many places throughout her life including Roselle, Carroll, Coon Rapids, Oskaloosa, Emmetsburg and Sioux City, Iowa; Bangor, Maine and Peoria, Ill. She worked in Strom’s Jewelry, helping customers and creating window displays, and as a router at Sears for 25 years. Her passions included playing cards, reading books, sailing, camping, bird watching and supporting animal rights organizations. She enjoyed playing bridge and cards with many clubs and friends. She was an avid book collector and reader, and often said, “If I have a good book, I am rich.”

She and her husband loved sailing and driving their camper coast to coast to explore the U.S.

She is survived by her husband, C. Ron Strom; her daughters, Melany Bailey (John Thiele), Ruch, Ore., and Jayne Krichbaum (Charlie), Orange Park. Fla.; a granddaughter, Aubrey Krichbaum of Eagle Point, Ore.; her sisters, Melva Haubrich, Carroll, Iowa, Judy Burk, Dennison, Iowa, Suzanne Rutten (Tom), Naples, Fla., and Dianne Halbur (Gene), Brainerd, Minn.; sisters-in-law Carolyn Roberts (Ron) of Waterloo, Iowa, Doris Strom, Preston, Iowa, and Irene Weum (Arvid) of International Falls, Minn.; several nieces and nephews, and her beloved cat, Sweetie.

The family sincerely thanks Hospice of Siouxland for their compassionate care, particularly Pam, Ruth, Lauri, Triage Nurses, Deb, Nicole, Counselor John and Chaplain Mark. Mrs. Strom had her own way of saying goodbye to family and friends and frequently said, “Toodle-oo said Mayzie, and off she flew.”
