James W. Wingert

October 10, 1932 — November 21, 2015

James W. Wingert, 83, of Sioux City left this world for heaven, Saturday, November 21st, following a lengthy illness of Alzheimer’s & Parkinson’s disease. James was born in Sioux City, October 10, 1932 to Walt & Clara (Estergaard) Wingert.  Funeral Services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 3101 Hamilton Blvd. on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. 

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Meyer Bros Colonial Chapel 3220 Stone Park Blvd. from 4-8 p.m. with the family present from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7pm.

He attended school in rural Plymouth County and later North Junior and Central High School, graduating in 1950.  He met the love of his life, Lenore Langley where they both attended a one room school house.. They were married in June 1952. He was drafted in 1952 and served in the U.S. Army until 1955.   Following the military, he was employed in the appliance business first at D.K. Baxter Company until their closing.  He then worked for Lefkow Supply Company and later Jones Distributing until they closed.  He retired in 1997 from Midwest Electric Company.

Jim spent many hours working outdoors in his garden & yard.  He and his wife enjoyed many years of camping and spending time with family.  He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church serving over the years as an usher. ..He took pride in donating to the Siouxland Blood Bank, donating nearly 20 gallons until forced to stop due to his health.  Jim was well known for his dry sense of humor and love of country music.  Jim loved dogs and had many over the years.  He was a kind and loving husband, father and friend,  always willing to lend a helping hand. 

He is survived by his wife A. Lenore and 3 children:  Rick & Dorothy (Georgen) Wingert of Sioux City, Shari Perley-Tramp of South Sioux City & special friend Rich Klemmensen and Carol Daniel of Sioux City & special friend Al Montanye. 

A brother & his wife: Tom & Alice (McCain) Wingert and a  brother in-law & his wife:  Dennis & Mary Ellen (Schuttpelz) Langley of Sioux City.

Five grandchildren:  Barb (Matt) Vail and Marci (Joe) Earp all of Sioux City; Jesse Daniel & special friend Jessica Langel, and Jarrod Daniel all of Des Moines, and Ethan Tramp of South Sioux City.

Five great grandchildren:  Indy and Nathan Whitaker, Toby Wingert, Emmett Vail, Sophie Earp all of Sioux City.  Five step great-grandchildren:  Jase, McKennan & Alayna Vail and Riley & Isaac Earp.  Also numerous nieces & nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents:  Walt & Clara (Estergaard) Wingert, in-laws L.C. “Bill” & Alvina (Axemaker) Langley, a brother, Gerald, a sister-in-law Carol (Langley) Schuttpelz, and a grandson Jordan Daniel. Special thanks to Synergy Home Health and Hospice of Siouxland for their wonderful, caring staff during his final weeks. 

A special thanks to Pastor Ralph Shorey for his many visits, prayers and words of comfort.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Siouxland or Faith Lutheran Church for the Mercy Meals program.
