Winston Hayes

April 27, 1940 — November 17, 2015

Elder Winston "Sonny" Hayes, 75, was called home to enter the gates of heaven at his residence, on Tuesday November 17, 2015 to rejoin his beautiful, lovely wife of forty-six plus years whom he missed dearly. Funeral Services will be held 1:00p.m. on Monday, November 23, 2015, at Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, 610 Center St. Sioux City, IA. 51103. Visitation will start on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at his residence, 514 Myrtle Street, Sioux City, IA. 51103 until the time of services.

Winston was born on April 27, 1942 to the late Mr. Columbus and Mrs. (Bessie Lee Grant) Hayes Sr. in Tunica Mississippi. He moved to Sioux City at a young age where he met and united in Holy Matrimony on February 13, 1963 to the late Annabelle (McCauley) Hayes. To this union five children were born. Winston also has two children who reside in Memphis, Tennessee as well as two step children that he raised since they were toddlers. He was a dedicated husband and father to his family. He was an active and dedicated member at Tabernacle for over 40 years where he taught Sunday School to the adult class. He enjoyed singing and listening to gospel music, helping others in any way that he could. He enjoyed spending time with his grand-children and they enjoyed spending time with him as well. Most of all he enjoyed spreading the word of God to all, no matter where he was. He had several places where he conducted church services. He was a member of the Church of God In Christ Inc.(Iowa Jurisdiction), NAACP, and Sooland Black Ministerial Alliance. He worked as a laborer for many years in the packing house. Winston's smile, laughter, teachings, funny sounds that he made to keep us laughing, and everything about our father will be cherished and truly missed dearly.

Left to cherish his memories are his five daughters, Linda Thompkins of Memphis, TN. Annette Loche (Nathaniel), Marilyn Fields both of Sioux City, IA. Bessie L. Hayes, and Bernice Hayes both of Denver, CO; three sons Gregory Thompkins of Memphis, TN. Anthony L. Hayes, and Rickie Fields both of Sioux City, IA; three sisters Leoila (Charles) Ray, Rosie L. Winston was preceded in death by his wife Annabelle McCauley Hayes, a son Kennedy Lee Hayes, his parents, a sister Hattie Pearl Magnum, and two brothers, David Henry (D.H.) Williams, and James E. Hayes.
