She attended Sioux City Schools and graduated from Central High School in 1950. On November 25, 1952, Bev was united in marriage to John M. Koson at St. Francis Catholic Church. Shortly after graduation, Bev started a long working career with Northwestern Bell as a switchboard operator. Because of her dedication, organizational skills, and work ethic, she was promoted numerous times. Bev was Regional Employment Manager upon retirement from U.S. West in March of 1982. Being only 50 years old, Bev wasn’t ready to leave the workforce. She took a part-time position at Morningside College as coordinator in the Better Management Institute until 1987. Bev then took a full-time position at Western Iowa Tech as a Pace Coordinator, and later coordinator of the Area XII Regional Center of the Iowa Economic Development Network until her retirement in 1992. During Bev’s 40+ year work history, she served on many Civic groups and boards, including the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau, League of Women Voters, Crime Stoppers, and A.B.W.A. (War Eagle Chapter). In 1980, Bev was honored as A.B.W.A. Business Woman of the year. Bev had many interests and talents outside of work. She loved politics, reading, going to the movies, golfing, and socializing with her and John’s many good friends. Bev was also an absolute whiz on a computer. She helped start an investment group with a dozen of her close friends. She truly enjoyed that, spreadsheets and all. Bev loved her entire family a great deal, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her generosity throughout her life time was unmatched. Bev was the family advocate. If anyone had a problem, she would get to the bottom of it and help with a solution. She will be sorely missed by everyone that knew her. Bev is survived by her son Michael (Julie) Koson of Sioux City; grandchildren Paul (Emily) Koson of Sioux City, Kara (Nick) Recker of Coralville, IA, and Luke (Angie) Koson of Denver, CO; great grandchildren: Hayden, Reed, and Lauren Koson of Sioux City, and Casey and Elloitt Recker of Coralville, IA; and a brother Gary (Toni) Cain of Sioux City. Bev was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Wayne and Mark Cain, sister Donna Stabile, brothers in law Todd and Steve Koson, and Joe Stabile; sisters in law Marie and Evelyn Koson and Ann Cain; and nephews John Cain and David Koson. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice of Siouxland in Bev’s Memory.
