SIOUX CITY | Mary Elizabeth Motz, 90, of Sioux City died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City. Concelebrants will be the Rev. Donald Ries and her brother, the Rev. Eugene Murray. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 5:30 to 8 p.m. a rosary recited at 6:45 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Mary was born on Dec. 17, 1924, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Wilfred Clare and Mary (Kestel) Murray. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Storm Lake. She received her bachelor of science degree in medical technology from Briar Cliff College. Mary was awarded the Alumnus of The Year from Briar Cliff. On Aug. 8, 1949, she married Edward C. Motz in Storm Lake. He died on Dec. 21, 2014, in Sioux City. Mary worked as a medical technologist for more than 40 years at St. Luke's Medical Center. During her time there, she loved to adorn the lab with flowers and plants. When her five children were young, she was a stay-at-home mom. Mary was a longtime member of St. Michael Catholic Church and the church's Altar Society. She helped start Keenagers Group (for seniors) at the church. She made many quilts for the Battered Women's Shelter as well as for her family. Survivors include four sons and their wives, Richard and Mary Motz of Sioux City, Robert and Jeanne Motz of Sioux City, Dr. Dennis and Janice Motz of Sioux Falls, S.D., and William and Debra Motz of San Antonio, Texas; a son-in-law, Dr. Richard Davidson of Tuscola, Fla.; a borrowed son, Cesar Narvaez of Sioux City; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one on the way; five siblings, Kathleen "Dolly" McKenna of San Jose, Calif., Raymond Murray of West Des Moines, Paul Murray and his wife, Martha of Alta, Iowa, Maurita Leahy of Davenport, Iowa, and the Rev. Eugene Murray of Marcus, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Marilyn Davidson; and brothers, Joseph Murray, Dr. William Murray and Rev. Edward Murray.
