Morris Budd

Morris Budd, age 83, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at a local hospital. Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at Mayflower Congregational Church. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, November 5, 2015, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, where the family will be present from 6 PM to 8 PM and Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 PM. Morris Hatcher Budd, son of Herbert and Emma (Leach) Budd, was born May 7, 1932, at Delaplane, Virginia. He grew up in Virginia where he graduated from Marshall High School. From 1952 to 1956, Morris served as a hydraulic mechanic with the U.S. Air Force, and was stationed stateside as well as England and Africa. In 1953, while stationed in Sioux City, Iowa, he met his future wife. On October 2, 1954, Morris was united in marriage with Donna Lynn at the First United Methodist Church in Sioux City. Three children were born to this union. Morris worked at North American Manufacturing and Devoe Paint before becoming a police officer. Morris served with the Sioux City Police Department, starting in 1964 and retiring in 1987. Part of his police duty was to work traffic and security in the stockyards, where he also operated a small trucking company. He was a member of Mayflower Congregational Church where he served as Trustee and Deacon. He also held memberships in the American Legion, Policeman's Association and the Iowa State Police Chiefs' Association. Morris loved to hunt, fish, and cherished the time spent with his family. Morris is survived by two sons: William Budd and wife Kathy of Taylor, Texas and Douglas Budd and wife Debbie of Austin, Texas; a daughter Arlynn Vega and husband Richard of Austin, Texas; two grandchildren Brittany and Joshua Budd; a sister Ann Woodward; a sister-in-law Arlene Baldes; a niece Linda Cron; and great-nieces Erin Small and Gina Roost. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a brother Thomas. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial donations be directed to Calico Kids Preschool or to Siouxland PACE.
