Anne was born October 13, 1931, in Sioux City, to Tom E. and Frances (Bodin) Murray. She attended Sioux City schools, graduating from East High School in 1950. During her high school years, she participated in the Choir, was a member of the Sub-Debs, and was a performing member of the Dream Aires, a female quartet who performed on radio stations in Sioux City and Omaha. Anne was crowned Homecoming Queen at East High. While attending Morningside College, she was honored as the May Queen, participated in cheerleading, and various other extracurricular activities. She married Paul A. Berger on December 27, 1951. Anne's greatest accomplishments were her three children, and the love of her husband and family. She took great delight in her grandsons, and was an exceptional Grandma Anne and Nana. She continued the importance of their Swedish and Norwegian heritage with Scandinavian customs, especially during the Holidays. Anne prepared gourmet family meals, outdoor brunches, was an excellent seamstress and home decorator. She greeted guests warmly, and would never pass up the opportunity to harmonize 'ditties' with family members. She enjoyed a competitive game of Trivial Pursuit, the daily NY Times crossword puzzle, and playing sets of rummy. Anne truly believed laughter was the best medicine, and smiled through the most challenging moments during her final days. Anne was primarily a life-long resident of Sioux City, before moving to Omaha in 2004 to help care for her family. She was one of the original founding members of Morningside Lutheran Church, and was a long-time member of the Chapter DX of P.E.O. in Sioux City. She volunteered for various Sioux City organizations, including the Parent-Teacher Association, St. Luke's Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, and proudly accompanied her husband Paul at numerous civic service functions and ceremonies during his term as Mayor of Sioux City. Those left to cherish her memory, include her three children; Dr. Paul Berger, Jr. (Lanie) of Sioux City, Dan Berger of Omaha, Alison Berger-Lavine (Travis) of Omaha: three grandchildren; Dr. Paul Berger, III of Kansas City, MO, Thomas Berger-DeRoos and Dan Berger-DeRoos of Omaha, a brother; Tom Murray (Ihlys) of West Sacramento, CA; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and an infant brother, Jimmie Murray. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Berger family for distribution to Anne's preferred Charities.
