Vertis H. Paulsen, 88, of Sioux City, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2015. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. James Travis officiating. Military graveside honors will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will take place Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Online condolences may be sent towww.meyerbroschapels.com Vertis was born on September 1, 1927 in rural Cushing, IA to Harold and Clara (Andresen) Paulsen. Following graduation from Cushing High School, he enlisted in the Navy. Vert served as a Seabee on the USS Laffey (DD-724) and saw naval battle in the Pacific Ocean during World War II. Upon returning home to Iowa, Vert was united in marriage to Edna Jeanne Friis. He worked as a service manager and parts manager at various automobile dealerships and retired from Marx Truck and Trailer Sales after 30 years. Vert enjoyed camping and square dancing with Jeanne. He was also known to be a tinkerer; doing various carpentry and mechanical things. He also enjoyed playing bean bags. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Good Sam's Club and the Sioux Falls VFW. He is survived by his two sons Jeffrey H. (Rebecca) Paulsen of Sioux City; and Joseph B. Paulsen (Pat Kilburn) of Sioux City; daughter Linda (Randy) DeRoin of South Sioux City, NE; seven grandchildren: Jason Paulsen, Heidi Ippensen, Alyssa Paulsen, Karen Paulsen, Anne Fuchtman, Christopher DeRoin, and Claire DeRoin; and seven great grandchildren; and his brother Virgil (LouAnn) Paulsen of Storm Lake, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 65 years, Jeanne; and sister Vernelle Cook. Memorials may be made in Vert's memory to Hospice of Siouxland.
