Vernon Zorgdrager, age 68, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2015, at his home. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 PM to 2:30 PM on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at Nelson Berger Northside Chapel. Online condolences may be left at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Vernon John Zorgdrager, was born June 20, 1947, at Sibley, Iowa, to Clarence and Irene (Buysman) Zorgdrager. He graduated from Paullina High School in 1965. Vernon then enlisted with the United States Army and served as a mechanic on wheeled and tracked vehicles. Much of his two-year enlistment was served in Okinawa, Japan. After receiving his honorable discharge, he returned to Iowa and began his career as a partner in the Meyer-Zorgdrager Trucking firm at Germantown. He also worked as an owner/operator and drove for a number companies including, Livestock Express and TriState. In 2003, he retired from trucking, and then worked for Certified Appliance. Vernon is survived by his wife Mary Zorgdrager of Sioux City, Iowa; his four foster sisters: Christy, Becky, Vicki, and Bonnie; two sons: Beau (Amy) Zorgdrager of Petersburg, Virginia; and John (Cristina) Zorgdrager of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a daughter Jennifer (Randy) Zorgdrager of Sioux City; and two grandsons Tane and Noah Zorgdrager. He was preceded in death by his parents, his adopted parents Nel and Norman Meyer and adopted brother David Meyer.
