Denelda M. Erickson, 80, of Sioux City passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at a local hospital surrounded by her loving family. A mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2015 at Church of the Nativity with Father Steven McLoud officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 3, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a Vigil Service at 6:30 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com Denelda was born on March 7, 1935 in Fordyce, NE to Albin and Frieda (Albers) Juergens. After graduating from Cedar Rapids High School in Hartington, NE in 1953, she moved with her parents to Yankton, SD where she worked at Sacred Heart Hospital in the Admitting Department. She continued to work at the hospital until she met and married Arthur L. Erickson on June 28, 1955. Together they followed construction jobs to various towns until they permanently moved to Sioux City in 1960. Denelda worked in Sioux City for the Sioux City Schools as a Building Service Technician at East High School until her retirement in December of 1999. She enjoyed playing cards, doing puzzles, bird watching, camping, boating, watching wildlife and being outdoors. Her greatest pleasure came from spending time with her family. She is survived by her seven children Kenneth (Susan) Erickson of Merrill, IA; Daniel (Kathy) Erickson of Sergeant Bluff, IA; son-in-law Jim Hollins of Sioux City; Randall (Carla) Erickson of Sioux City; Patricia (Gary) Barkley of Kansas City, MO; Kathleen Nissen of Sergeant Bluff, IA; Robert (Kristine) Erickson of Sergeant Bluff, IA; and Thomas (Misty) Erickson of Sioux City; 17 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her daughter Joan Hollins.
