Irene Caroline Jewell went to be with her Lord on August 21, 2015; just two days short of her 107th birthday. She was born in Vivian, South Dakota on August 23, 1908 to Reinhold and Emille Juhnke. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Jewell; two stepsons, Charles Jewell of Sioux City and Bruce Jewell of Storm Lake; and her three sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gary and Earlis Koch of Rockwall, Texas and daughter-in-law Betty Stewart of Sioux City, Iowa; along with 4 granddaughters, one grandson, 7 great grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren. Irene Jewell was a lifelong resident of Sioux City until 2001 when she moved to Rockwall, Texas with her daughter and family. She taught elementary children in the Sioux City public school district for 25 years until her retirement, the majority of those years were at Roosevelt School. She was and still maintained her membership at Concordia Lutheran Church where she attended since 1936 and was past president of the Esther Circle. Upon her retirement, Irene enjoyed travel, gardening, needlework and being with friends. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, August 27th at 3 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
