Evelyn G. Madden, 86, of North Sioux City passed away Friday, August 7, 2015 at a local care center. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 Friday, September 4, 2015, at First United Methodist Church of Sioux City with Neil Peck, C.L.S. officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, September 3, 2015 from 4-8 P.M. with the family present from 6-8 P.M. and a Prayer Service and Eastern Star Service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Evelyn Grace Madden was born February 7, 1929, to Amil "AJ" and Edna Grace (Wilson) Franz at the home farm a half mile south of Frankfort, South Dakota. She attended twelve years at Frankfort School and graduated May 26, 1946. Evelyn then attended and graduated from the South Dakota Beauty Academy in Sioux Falls, SD. After graduation, Evelyn moved to Redfield and worked in a beauty shop. Evelyn met and married Gerald "Gerry" Madden on August 27, 1950. The couple moved to Webster, SD, and Evelyn worked for Dr. Homer Caley DVM. In 1954, they moved to Aberdeen, SD, and in 1956, she went to work for the USDA and established the Brucellosis Lab for a time before a serologist came to work there. From 1965-1975, the couple lived in Overland Park, KS, before moving to Sheldon, IA. Evelyn and Gerry bought the Daniels Motel, and Evelyn worked part time in real estate. They moved to Sioux City in 1982, and Evelyn worked as a bookkeeper for Rudolph's Shoe Mart until retirement. Evelyn enjoyed time in Scottsdale, AZ, before returning to North Sioux City, SD, on May 4, 2004. She was a loyal member of First United Methodist Church in Sioux City, IA. Evelyn was a 50 plus year member of Eastern Star and Worthy Matron of the Floyd Chapter Survivors include her daughter Deb (Craig) Dawson; her sons: Roger (Amy) Madden and their daughters Elizabeth and Christine, and Bill (Kandi) Madden and their children Taylor and Alyssa; sister Kay (John) Young; and many nieces, nephews, and their families, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gerry Madden on January 2, 1984, five brothers, two sisters, and a niece and nephew. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church or the Abu Bekr Shrine Hospital Transportation Fund in Evelyn's memory.
