Alvin Kasel

Alvin Kasel, age 92, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2015, at a local nursing home with friends by his side. Graveside services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, August 14, 2015, at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held starting at 6 PM on Thursday, August 13, 2015, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel where a Prayer Service will be held at 7 PM. Online condolences may be sent through www.meyerbroschapels.com. Alvin Kasel, son of Edward and Anna (Meiselbach) Kasel, was born zNovember 26, 1922, in Blackfoot, Idaho. As a baby, Alvin moved with his family to Scribner, Nebraska where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1940. Alvin then drove truck for a local alfalfa mill, and did numerous construction projects including building ammunition silos in Mead, the Scribner airport, and a grain elevator in Fremont. From 1943 to 1945, Alvin served in the United States Army with the 209th Combat Engineers, as a truck driver, attaining the rank of Tech 5. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, he worked for the Pacific Fruit Express in Council Bluffs and also the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for several years. On November 6, 1954, Alvin was united in marriage with Louise M. Fachman at Plattsmouth, Nebraska. They made their home in Omaha and Sioux City. Alvin had a long career with Armour and Company in Omaha and Sioux Quality Packing in Sioux City. During retirement, he cared for race horses at the race track. He was a member of the Crossroads Evangelical Church in South Sioux City and the American Legion Post #0697. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and four stepchildren.
