Doris Ellen Nurre, 93 of Sioux City passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at a local care facility. Doris was cremated and there are no scheduled services. Doris was born January 15, 1922 in Sioux City; she was the daughter of Forest and Ellen (Holmberg) Smith. Doris grew up in Sioux City and Emery, SD. She graduated from Emery High School and attended Iowa State University. Doris married Richard C. Nurre June 23, 1942 in Duluth, MN; he died in 1998. Doris was a manager at First Federal Savings & Loan. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and enjoyed golf, bridge and gardening. She volunteered at the YMCA and the YWCA and served as president of the volunteer organization at Holy Spirit Retirement Home. She was also a Cub Scout leader. Survivors include 4 sons: Richard Nurre (Van) of Los Angeles, CA, Jeffrey Nurre of Mill Valley, CA, Mark Nurre (Geri) of Spokane, WA and Joel Nurre of St. Paul, MN; a sister: Joann Smith of Marion, SD; a grandson: Ryan Nurre (Carey); 5 great grandchildren: Trevor, Madison, Peyton, Channing and Rayce. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard, a brother: Donald and a sister: Patricia.
