Helen Lucille Murphy, 90, of Akron, IA, formerly of Sioux City passed away on Sunday, August, 2, 2015 at Sanford Sheldon Senior Care Center in Sheldon, IA. Private graveside services will be on Tuesday in St. Patrick's Catholic Church Cemetery in Akron, IA. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Helen was born on July 23, 1925 in Deer Creek, MN to Frank and Lucille (Rhinehart) Behning. She graduated from Hewitt High School in 1943 in Wadena, MN where she was active in Choir and was on the year book staff. She later graduated from Paris Academy of Beauty Culture in Cedar Rapids, IA in 1947. She was married to John E. Murphy on September 20, 1947 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Manchester, IA. He preceded her in death on January 6, 1988. Helen worked for Blue and Gray Beauty Salon, Sioux City Country Club, Sioux City Blue Print, Paddock Steak House and at St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Rectory. She took deep interest in her faith, spending time with family and friends, knitting, crocheting, golfing, traveling, playing cards, music, baking and making candy. She is survived by her children, Tim (Bessie) Murphy of Las Vegas, NV; Kathie (Ed) Newell of Sioux City; Dennis (Amber) Murphy of Dallas, TX; Sean (Sue) Murphy of Sioux City; grandchildren, Stephanie and Pamela Murphy, Molli (Scott) Sweaningen, Mike (April) Murphy, Cameron and Gillian Newell and Nick (Sara) DeAnda; great grandchildren Dylan, Hailey, Ireland, Caleb, and Charlie, sibling Earl (Judy) and Lowell (Frances) Behning; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Patrick, brother Wesley and sister in laws Sue and Lois.
