Robert W. Monroe, Sr., 85, of Sioux City passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at a Sioux City Hospital. Per his wishes his body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. James Travis officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com Robert was born on September 27, 1929 in Sioux City to Bud and Babe (Long) Monroe. He served his country in the US Navy. He was married to Joyce Stoltze in 1949. To this union 3 children were born. She preceded him in death in 1999. He later married Shirley Stevens on December 15, 2000 in Laredo, TX. Robert was a machinist for 20 plus years at M&S Machine Shop before becoming self-employed as a long haul truck driver for over 20 years. He had a passion for cars. For years he raced stock cars, midgets, and also drag raced. He also loved watching car races on T.V. He also enjoyed his years on the road driving and seeing the countryside. He is survived by his wife Shirley Monroe of Sioux City; sons Bob (Bev) Monroe of Ontario, CA; Gary (Terri) Monroe of Sioux City; daughters Anita (Randy) Huss of Sioux City and Linda (Michael) Lyon of Newport Beach, CA; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; 3 sisters Beverly Wensel of South Sioux City, NE; Bernice Benjamin of South Sioux City, NE and Betty Ann Beckler of Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bill.
