SIOUX CITY | John Edward Windle, 89, of Sioux City, died Saturday at a local hospital. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with Pastor Ron Engen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today with the family present 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com. John was born Feb. 8, 1926 in Sioux City the son of William and Bertha Windle. He attended local schools and Morningside College. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the USS LS 486. After returning to Sioux City he was active in the Army National Guard and retired with 30 years of service. John was united in marriage to Joanne Junck on Dec. 25, 1949. Eight children were born to this union. John worked at Cargill, Twin Drive Inn, Louies, Windcharger and retired as a maintenance man at the Benson Bldg. John is survived by his sons, Kirk of Sioux City, Kim and wife, Mickey of Omaha, Kevin and wife, Gloria, Ken and wife, Veronica, Kelly and wife, Patsy, Karey and wife, Deb all of Sioux City; daughter, Kathy Schink and husband, Gregg of Smithland, IA; 22 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; brother, Donald Windle and his wife, Lorraine of Sioux City; 2 sisters, Nellie Knutson of Sioux Falls, SD and Wyota Windle of Idaho; and a sister-in-law, Hermine Windle of Sioux City. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, a son, Kraig, sisters, RosaBelle, Annie, Cora, Ruth, Bertha and Barbara; and brothers, James, William and Charles.
