Bruce Anthon Yockey

December 16, 1939 — July 16, 2015

Bruce Anthon Yockey, 75, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015 following a courageous battle with cancer, and 53 years of chronic illness. Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Wesley United Methodist Church with Reverend Sheryl Ashley officiating. Visitation will be Monday, July 20, 2015 from 4-8 P.M. with the family present from 6-8 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Bruce was born December 16, 1939 in Sioux City, the son of Rex and Helen (Reynen) Yockey. Bruce graduated from Leeds High School in 1958 and then attended Iowa Wesleyan College at Mt. Pleasant and then Morningside College until he was too sick to go and had major surgery in 1962. Bruce married Carolyn Amunson on June 5, 1966 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa. Bruce was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school. He also coached basketball and was a Boy Scout and Eagle Scout Troop Leader. He enjoyed sketching, tinkering, cooking, and fishing, but his greatest love was his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Survivors include his wife Carolyn; 2 sons: Troy and wife Tabitha Yockey of Bellevue, WA and Jason Yockey and fiancé Meghan O'Donnell of Fountain, CO; 2 daughters: Christine and husband Mike Cook of Sioux City, and Katie Yockey of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren: Alex, Elijah, Tyler, Sean, Shannon, Andrew, Ethan, Katelyn, Ally, Benjamin, Keira, and Emarie; brother Terry and wife Joani Yockey of Salt Lake City, UT; sister-in-law Verlie Yockey of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, brothers William and Rene, sisters Sarah "Sally" and her husband Denver Birkhofer and Virginia "Ginger" Yockey, premature son Todd, and numerous aunts and uncles.
