McCook Lake, SD | Sharlene C. "Shar" Schroeder, 73, of McCook Lake, SD died Thursday, July 16, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 20th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City. Concelebrants will be Msgr. R. Mark Duchaine and Rev. Craig Collison. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday with the family present 6-8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Sharlene was born Dec. 25, 1941 in Sioux City, IA. She was the daughter of Leonard and Celia (Reed) Miller and was raised in Onawa, IA. Following high school graduation she attended the University of South Dakota. On August 18, 1962 she married LaVern Schroeder in Sioux City. The couple made their home in Sioux City where they raised 3 children, Kelly, Karole and Joey. After being a homemaker for many years, Shar, along with her husband became co-owners of Budget Motors, Inc. Shar was an active member of the Ike's Club where she served on the board and was an elected official for years. She belonged to P.E.O. and was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Shar loved spending time with her grandkids. She enjoyed the lake and vacationing with family. Survivors include her husband, Vern of McCook Lake; a daughter, Karole Fowler and her husband, Rusty of Sioux City, a son, Joey Schroeder and his wife, Marcy of McCook Lake, SD; a daughter-in-law, Donna Steward and her husband, Tony of Sioux City; 2 brothers, Leonard Miller and his wife, Beulah and Bob Miller and his wife, Joan all of Onawa, IA; 6 grandchildren, Nicholas Fowler (Robyn Whitead), Cody Fowler, Bryce Schroeder, Brady Schroeder, Briley Schroeder and Myah Steward (David Stubblefield); 3 great-grandchildren, Carson Fowler, Korbyn Fowler and Kaesyn Whitead; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Kelly. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Memorials may be made in her name to Hospice of Siouxland or to oncology 7th floor at Mercy Medical Center.
