SIOUX CITY | Mildred R. "Millie" Peterson, 91, of Sioux City, died Monday, July 13, 2015 at Sunrise Retirement Community. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Augustana Lutheran Church with Rev. Del Olivier officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 5:30 - 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Millie was born Feb. 10, 1924 in Sioux City the daughter of James and Hannah (Samuelson) Mohan. After her graduation from Leeds High School, she obtained her teaching certificate from Wayne State Teachers' College. Millie taught in several Siouxland schools before she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at Morningside College. She later received her Master's Degree in Library Science from the University of South Dakota. Millie retired from East High School in 1989 as their librarian. On July 11, 1947 she married Robert E. Peterson in Sioux City. Together they raised four children, Susan, James, Barbara and Douglas. Robert died on June 1, 2001 in Sioux City. Millie was a longtime active member of Augustana Lutheran Church. Her faith was very important to her. Millie enjoyed sewing, quilting and painting, especially on china. She was an avid reader and was known as the family historian. Survivors include her children, Susan Peterson of Fort Worth, TX, James Peterson and his wife, Joan of Colorado Springs, CO, Barbara Sperry and her husband, John of Peoria, IL and Douglas Peterson of Rogers, Ark.; a brother, Robert Mohan and his wife, Doris of Sioux City; 7 grandchildren, Megan Lundberg, Jon (Sarah) Peterson, Joseph Peterson, David Peterson, Matthew Sperry, Peter Sperry and Maggie Sperry; a great-granddaughter, Lauryn Lundberg; a sister-in-law, Janice Mohan; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, AnnLee McQue and brother, Donald Mohan Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the staff at Sunrise Retirement Community for all their kindness. Memorials may be made in her name to Augustana Lutheran Church.
