Helen J. Bradbury, age 89, of Sioux City, Iowa, died Saturday June 27, 2015, at Sunrise Retirement Community. Services followed by a luncheon will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday July, 1 2015 at Morningside Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dave Koehler officiating. Burial will follow the luncheon at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday June 30, 2015 with family present 6:00 to 8:00 and Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.at Meyer Brothers Morningside Funeral Home. Helen was born January 3, 1926 (during a winter storm with snow and howling winds) in Leeds, a suburb of Sioux City, Iowa, to Helleman (Andy) and Elizabeth Andersen. Helen graduated from Central High School in June of 1944. Helen married Clarence (Brad) Bradbury on January 11, 1947, at Morningside Lutheran Church. Clarence passed away August 15, 1989, in Sioux City. Helen was a secretary at the U.S. Selective Services office during World War II. She also worked for United Wholesalers until her marriage. She worked part-time at Sioux City's City Hall and served at Rogers Electric as a secretary for seven years when her children were in college. She worked for Western Girl while her children were growing up, filling vacancies at various businesses as needed. She was a 50+-year member of Morningside Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, and a member of Hannah Circle and Marterians. She was a 50+-year member of Morningside Chapter #502 Order of the Eastern Star and was Star Points Esther and Electa. She was also a member of Daughters of the Nile (served as Queen), Kan-Duettes (served as President), Shriner's Widows Club, Girls of '68, Sioux City Woman's Club, Sioux City Postal Auxiliary, Brush & Pallet Club (served as President), and Sons of Norway (served as Vice President). She enjoyed painting, crocheting, and knitting; but, above all, she loved her two boys, Roger and Bill, and just being a mother and a wife. She also liked taking care of her grandchildren and, lastly, her little Maltese dog, Maggie. She often said she loved her friends and her lifeit was wonderful. Survivors include Bill Bradbury and his wife Donna; daughter-in-law Kathy Christiansen and her husband Craig; four grandchildren, David Bradbury, Katie Bradbury Schumacher and husband Nick, Anne Bradbury, and Michael Bradbury and wife Sarah Loffswold Bradbury; and four great-grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her husband; her son Roger; her parents, Elizabeth and Helleman Andersen; two brothers, Don and John; and one sister, Aletta. Memorials may be directed to Abu Bekr Transportation Fund, Morningside Presbyterian Church, or Sunrise Retirement Community.
