Raymond E. Isaacson, 80 of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly on Wed. June 24, 2015 in New York City on a multi-city MLB baseball vacation. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at the Church of the Nativity in Sioux City. Private graveside services will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Tuesday with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. There will be a rosary recited by the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus at 6:30 and a Vigil service at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday all at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Ray was born April 14, 1935 in Sioux City; he was the son of Kermit and Ruth "Evelyn" (Dowlin) Isaacson. Ray grew up in Sioux City, attended Sioux City schools and graduated from Central High School in 1953. Ray married Patricia Ralph November 6, 1954 in Sioux City. He spent his career working as an auto mechanic and service station owner until retiring in 1995. Ray was a member of the Church of the Nativity and the Men's Club, The Boys of 68 and the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus. He served on the board of directors of the Castle on the Hill. He was a Friend of Bill W for 39 years. After coming back to Sioux City from California, Ray helped start the Pancake Breakfasts at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Ray enjoyed watching Heelan High School and the Sioux City Explorers baseball games. He also enjoyed going to Whitfield United Methodist Church to help make peanut brittle. Survivors include his wife Patricia of Sioux City; 3 children: RaeAnn Isaacson of Sioux City, Ronald Isaacson and his wife Vivian of Sioux City, Ken Isaacson and his wife Lisa Fowler of Minnetonka, MN; 2 sisters: Ruth Moore and her husband William of Glendale, AZ, Marilyn Sherwood of Big Bear City, CA; a brother: Richard Isaacson and his wife Beverly of Greensboro, N.C.; a sister-in-law: Nan Isaacson of Clermont, FL; 5 grandchildren: Mindy Spenner (Donn), Matt Watters, Abby Isaacson, Riley Isaacson and Ryan Isaacson; and many special nieces and nephews, and a large extended family. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, a son Kermit David Isaacson, a brother Kermit L. Isaacson, and a brother-in-law Ron Sherwood. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Church of the Nativity, Siouxland Center for Active Generations or the June E. Nylen Cancer Center.
