Eileen Gerling, age 90, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2015, at her home. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Visitation will be held from 6 PM to 8 PM on Monday, June 8, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church where a prayer service will be held at 7 PM. Eileen's family will also greet friends on Tuesday one hour prior to services. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Eileen Rose, daughter of Jacob and Mary (Hirsch) Denker, was born September 5, 1924, at Emerson, Nebraska. She grew on a farm at Emerson. On January 25, 1941, Eileen was united in marriage with Lawrence Gerling at First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, NE. Three children were born to this union. The family farmed at Wakefield before settling in Sioux City in the late 1950s. Eileen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed doing yardwork and gardening and cherished the time spent with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Eileen is survived by her husband Lawrence Gerling of Sioux City; three children: Jean (Terry) Poulsen of Old Hickory, TN; Bill Gerling (Diana Walker) of Hermitage, TN; and Teri (Joe) Gerling-Mills of Sioux City; five grandchildren: Sheri Reed, Julie Poulsen, Angela Calixte, Hillary Gerling and Melissa Houska; seven great-grandchildren: Jack, Anna Grace and Michael Reed; David Poulsen; Tyson Calixte; Jada Houska and Tre Cain; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and ten siblings: Mabel, Laura, Donald, Jake, Raymond, Joe, Ted, Elmer, Harry and Bill.
