Roger Brown

May 26, 1945 — June 1, 2015

Roger Brown, age 70, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away on Monday, June 1st at Hallmark Care Center. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 13th, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church with Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in charge of arrangements. Roger Verdean, son of Donald and Dorothy (Beers) Brown, was born May 26, 1945, at Correctionville, Iowa. He attended country school as a child and graduated from Correctionville High School in 1963. Roger then enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in South Korea during the Vietnam era. After completing his service, he then returned to Correctionville and married Sandy Mammen. A son, Timothy, was born to this union. On August 11, 1979, Roger was united in marriage to Carla Kirby and the couple have made their home in Sioux City for the past 36 years. In the 1970's, Roger enrolled in classes at Western Iowa Tech and went on to earn his degree in Computer Science. He was hired by Sioux Honey Association on January 29, 1973 and retired from there due to ill health as Director of MIS/EDI in November of 2007. He was a long-time member of Data Processing Management Association (DPMA). Throughout the years, Roger enjoyed fishing, boating, movies, riding motorcycles and going to concerts. Roger is survived by his wife, Carla Brown of Sioux City; a son, Tim (Beth) Brown of Lakeville, MN; grandchildren, Shayley (Dennis) Parks, Hillary Bowman, Tanner Holtz, Nataley and Cooper Brown; great grandchildren, Izaak, Riley and Brook Parks; a sister, Judee (Bob) Kingsbury; a brother, Marvin (Karolyn) Brown; father, and mother-in-law, Charles and Berneeta Kirby; brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Terry Kirby; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. May the strength and courage with which Roger fought this 8 year battle help us all to appreciate each precious day we're given here on Earth!
