Bruce C. Saunders, 68, a long-time resident of Sioux City died on Friday, May 29, 2015 at a Sioux City hospital after a lengthy illness. Mr. Saunders was born in Omaha, Nebraska on December 28, 1946 to Joseph and Barbara (Clark) Saunders. Bruce spent his early years and attended school in Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska where he excelled at singing. A highlight of his musical education was performing with the Lincoln Boys Choir in New York City. Throughout his life, Bruce enjoyed singing and listening to show music. Square dancing was also one of his passions. People knew Bruce for his "big heart." He always had concern for people of all abilities and was an advocate for mental health issues. He often made presentations to raise awareness about mental health and disability issues in the community and across Iowa. Bruce was an active member of the Radiant Life Community Church in Sioux City. Mr. Saunders is survived by his brother, Steve Saunders. He is also survived by his companion, Linda Groetken. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Barbara Saunders. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at the Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Rev. Doug Collins will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Monday with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Monday all at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be sent to the Radiant Life Community Church, 423 George Street in Sioux City.
