Raymond "Ray" Douglas Thorp, 88, of Sioux City passed away on Friday, May 8, 2015 at Northern Hills Retirement Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Kenny Hsu officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service will be at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com Ray was born on July 1, 1926 in Sioux City to Walter and Zella (Raybourne) Thorp. He graduated from Leeds High School. He was employed with Mid-American Energy retiring after 27 years of service. He was married to Mary D (Bauerly) on April 2, 1951 in Sioux City. She preceded him in death in 1995. He later married Lila (Johnson) on October 19, 1996 in Sioux City. Ray was self-taught to play the piano and organ and also enjoyed playing cards. He cherished his time with family and will be fondly remembered for his sweet tooth. He is survived by his wife Lila Thorp; 3 daughters Diana Franken; Marilyn (Bill) Rasmussen all of Sioux City; and Karen (Steve) Iseminger of Dexter, IA; step children Randall (Vicki) Johnson of Sioux City; Kim (Richard) Hartman of Grimes, IA; and Sherry (Rick) Welte of Sioux City; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Mary; son Darrell, granddaughter Hannah Stier, a sister Eileen Peterson, 3 brothers Leroy, Ralph, and Donald Thorp. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland or Northern Hills Retirement Home.
