Verne M. Olson, 81 of Sioux City passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at a Sioux City hospital from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Rev. Jim Thomas of the Holy Springs Bible Fellowship will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Sunday with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com Verne was born November 1, 1933 in Moorhead, IA; he was the son of John and Mina (Hendricksen) Olson. The family moved to Smithland in 1947 and then later to Sioux City. Verne attended Sioux City schools. He served in the U.S. Army in the 1st Airborne Division during the Korean Conflict from 1954 to 1957. Verne worked for Armour & Co. and then Swifts. He farmed with Leo Jockum and then worked for 18 years for K & B Trucking. Verne enjoyed motorcycle riding, fishing in Canada, traveling and reading books and magazines. Survivors include his 3 brothers: Dale Martin Olson (Brenda) of Sioux City, James Lee Olson (Sheryl) of Sioux City, Ronald W. Olson (Mary) of LeMars, IA; many nieces and nephews. Verne was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Iona Wood and 2 brothers, Merlin and Gerald Olson. Pallbearers will be Chad Hofer, Ken Ackerman, Sam Raphtis, Paul Betsos, Leo Jockum and Rex Krebs.
