Marlowe K. "Benny" Benson, Jr. 79 of Sioux City passed away on Friday, May 1, 2015 at a Sioux City hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Rev. Bob Rook will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Monday with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home Benny was born February 16, 1936 in Sioux City; he was the son of Marjorie (Young) and Marlowe "Choppy" Benson, Sr. Benny grew up in Sioux City, he attended Sioux City schools and graduated from East High School. Benny married LouAnn Burns and to this marriage 4 children were born. He married Deanna Denning on April 18, 1991 in South Sioux City, NE. Benny was a commission man at the Sioux City Stockyards starting out with Midwest Livestock Commission Co. He then went into business for himself and was a partner in Hudson - Coe Commission Co. and Wagner - Hudson Commission Co. Later, Benny worked for Speedway Transportation and then after his retirement he ran the train and merry go round at Arnolds Park for 10 years. Benny enjoyed going to rodeos and snow mobile racing with his kids. He loved to camp, fish, hunt and golf. Benny and Deanna spent their winters in Mission, TX and summers at Lake Okoboji. Survivors include his wife Deanna of Sioux City; 4 children: Mike Benson and his wife Mitzi, Shelly Curry and her husband Dan, Linda (Benson) Barthole, Melissa Durst and her husband Kevin all of Sioux City; 2 step children: Tim Muston of Sioux City, Jonnie Muston and his wife Leslie of Sioux City; a step daughter- in-law: Jeannie (Yong Sue) Muston; his sister: Donna Sandage of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren: Brett Benson (Katie), Jessie Cofield (Coco), Kristi Bentz (Travis), Ashley Cleveland (Chase), Justin Sandy (Sarah), Jason Sandy (Karley), Jay Sandy Jr, Brady Barthole (Sarah), Cody Barthole (Erica), Dustin "Boomer" Barthole, Karli Durst and Kyle Durst; 12 great grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren and 19 step great grandchildren. Benny is also survived by his close friends: Al Bradshaw, Frank Gilbert and Don Comes and many special friends from Texas and his dog, Chichi. Benny was preceded in death by his father: Marlowe "Choppy" Benson, Sr. and his mother: Marjorie Carter and her husband John. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
