Elizabeth "Betty" J. Shook, 87 of Sioux City, died suddenly with her daughters present on Monday, April 13, 2015. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Whitfield United Methodist Church with Reverend Liz Tucker officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be today, Friday, April 17th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with family present at 6:00 and a Prayer and Order of Eastern Star Service beginning this evening at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center or St. Luke's School of Nursing. Betty was born on June 20, 1927 in Sioux City to Frank and Irene (Stevens) Donovan. She received her education in the Sioux City Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 1945 from Central High School. She married Leland C. "Lee" Shook on October 17, 1945 in Blair, Nebraska and enjoyed being a stay-at-home mother until her children were raised. Betty was a baker, working for the Sioux City Community Schools, retiring in 2010. She was a past member of the Silver Azure Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, enjoyed her membership to the Whitfield United Methodist Church and Ruth's Circle. Betty enjoyed St. Luke's Partners, volunteered at June E. Nylen Cancer Center and St. Luke's, and was a Senior Companion. Betty enjoyed being a driver for the veterans for needed trips to and from the veteran's hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She loved to make cookies with her grandchildren, and divinity candy for anyone who would ask. Sour cream raisen bars were her specialty. Betty loved taking her grandchildren to lunch, which was usually Coney Island. Her love of embroidery resulted in making baby quilts for all her grandchildren. Betty is survived by her daughters Susan (Bob) Gwin of Sioux City, IA, Sally (Jim) Diamond of Hinton, IA, Terry (Ted) Erlwein of Bishop, CA, and Tracy (Mike) Feathers of Sioux City, IA; daughter-in-law Carolyn Shook of Fargo, ND; 10 grandchildren Rick Newton, Tammy (Doug) Maxfield, Wendy (Mike) Prins, Michelle (Rick) Kinnaman, Jamie (Keith) Seier, Karen (Richie) Yonick, Parker Shook, Alex Hinrichsen, Karlee Hinrichsen, and Carter Feathers; 13 great-grandchildren Bentley, Rich, Destany, Nick, Alexandria, Burke, Carson, Kayden, Drew, Kale, Kyle, Jacob, and Matthew; One great-great-grandchild Layla. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leland in 1987, infant daughter Sandra, son Lee Shook, and brother Lloyd "Boots" Donovan.
