Ingrid Anna Flom, 36, of Sioux City passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2015. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com Ingrid was born January 10, 1979, at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, England. She was the daughter of Douglas Flom and Kathleen (Palmer) Cleveland. Ingrid attended grade school in Sioux City, middle school in Lawrenceville, GA, and two years at Sioux City North High before graduating from high school in Lawrenceville. She was a National Merit Scholarship Finalist and Presidential Scholar at the University of Iowa, where she graduated with a degree in religious studies. Ingrid completed a master's degree at the Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis. Ingrid dedicated her life to the needs of family members in crisis. During college she volunteered at the Rape Crisis Center and upon graduation took a position with CASA for Children as a court-appointed special advocate. During her career as a social worker, she served abused and neglected children and youth in rural Georgia as a counselor at Pathways Transition Programs in Decatur, GA. Following a move back to Sioux City and receipt of MSW licensure, she worked as a counselor at Jackson Recovery Centers. A member of the Unitarian Church since early adulthood, Ingrid was an active and devoted member of First Unitarian Church in Sioux City. She regularly practiced yoga and meditation, attending Mondo Zen Hollow Bones retreats and Shambhala Meditation Center of Atlanta retreats to strengthen her practice. These activities and her support of Woman Within Weekends enriched her life and the lives of those around her. Survivors include her parents: her father, Douglas Flom and his wife Linda Peete-Flom of Sioux City, her mother, Kathleen Cleveland and her husband Bernie Cleveland of White Lake, MI; a sister: Dr. Emily Hurst and her husband Jason Hurst and their sons, Bade and Ethan Hurst of White Lake, MI; a brother: Ian Flom and his fiancé Genny Croteau of Murphy, N.C.; her maternal grandmother: Ruth S. Palmer of Waterford, MI; and two step brothers: Rolf Karlstad of Sioux City and Marcus Karlstad of Maui, HI. Ingrid was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather: Richard Palmer, paternal grandparents: Edroy and Margery Flom, and a step brother: Erik Karlstad.
