Shirley L. Black, 85 of Sioux City passed away on Tuesday, April 07, 2015 at the Prairie Estates Healthcare Community in Elk Point, SD. Shirley was surrounded by her children. Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Good News Baptist Church in Sioux City. Rev. John Woodford will officiate. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Shirley grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City Schools. Shirley was a homemaker and stay at home mom taking care of her children and grandchildren. She married Ralph W. Black April 21, 1962 in South Sioux City, NE; he died May 23, 1984. Shirley enjoyed shopping, gardening, gambling, dancing, rummaging and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include her children: Kathy Merchant (John) of McCook Lake, SD, David Whitesell (Lori) of Omaha, NE, Chuck Clayton (Sandy) South Sioux City, NE, Rick Whitesell of Sioux City, Tracy Black of Sioux City, Mike Black (Chris) of Sioux City, Tim Black (Dawn) of Springdale, AR, Kimberly Reising (Jimmy) of Sioux City, Lisa Lockmiller (Scott) of McCook Lake, SD; 2 sisters: Donna of California and Tootsie of Sioux City; a brother: Donald of Eagle Grove, IA; 24 grandchildren: April, Amy, Missy, Tavis, Staci, Chad, Carli, Cari, Josh, Shea, Danny, Ashley, Aaron, Craig, Samantha, Amanda, Breanna, Brandi, Ryan, Lindsey, Jimmy John, Jenna, Jordyn and Scottie; many great grandchildren with more on the way. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ralph, 2 sons: Danny and Donnie; 2 brothers: Gene and Tim and a sister JoAnn.
