SIOUX CITY | Richard L. "Dick" Bresnahan, 83, of Sioux City died Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at a local hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 6, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Jerome Cosgrove officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday with the family present 6-8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Richard was born Feb. 18, 1932 in Ida Grove, IA the son of Raymond and Hilda (Ulrich) Bresnahan. He grew up in Ida Grove where he graduated from high school. He attended Iowa State University for two years. On Oct. 2, 1954 he married Gloria L. Schroder in Ida Grove. In 1956, the couple made their home in Sioux City where they raised three children, Scott, Julie and Karen. Gloria died June 29, 2005 in Sioux City. Dick was the caretaker for St. Joseph Parish for 46 years. These years included numerous duties at the church, school, rectory and convent. Many people remember him as their school bus driver as well. He was proud to have maintained his Certified Driver's License (CDL). He retired in 1997. Dick loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed camping, fishing and going to coffee with the boys'. He loved being outside and took great pride in his gardening techniques. Survivors include a son, Scott Bresnahan and his wife, Gaylin of Sioux City; 2 daughters, Julie Miller and her husband, Gary of Remsen, IA and Karen Bresnahan and her partner, Bailey Mitchell of Denver, CO; 7 grandchildren, Angie (Will) Kliment, Sharon Miller, Emily Miller, Richard (Lani) Bresnahan, Blake Miller, Jordan Miller and Jessica Bresnahan; 2 great-grandchildren Zadie Kliment and Maddox Kliment; 5 siblings, Agnes Beers of Arthur, IA, John Bresnahan of Des Moines, IA, Donald (Marilyn) Bresnahan of Greendale, WI, Carol Bresnahan (Pryor Shaughnessy) of Denver, CO, Linda Bresnahan of New York City, NY; 2 sisters-in-law, Priscilla Bresnahan and Theresa Bresnahan both of Ida Grove; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Gloria, his parents, 3 brothers, Leonard, Roger and Robert, brother-in-law, Burdette Beers and sister-in-law, Barb Bresnahan. Pallbearers will be Will Kliment, Matt Smith, Robert Amland, Patrick Johnson, Kevin Johnson and Matt Johnson Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
