Elaine L. Petersen, 87 of Sioux City passed away on Monday, March 30, 2015 at her residence. Memorial services will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Rev. Daniel Rupp will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Armour, SD. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Elaine was born October 29, 1927 in Geddes, SD; she was the daughter of George and Lillian (Honner) Padrnos. Elaine grew up in Lake Andes and graduated from Lake Andes High School where she was the class valedictorian. Elaine then attended Yankton College where she received her teaching certificate. Elaine taught for over 40 years. She started in Pickstown, SD where Tom Brokaw was a student of hers. She also taught in Armour, SD and Sioux Falls before coming to Sioux City. Elaine married Don C. Petersen August 8, 1950 in Lake Andes, SD. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Elaine enjoyed politics and was a member of the Democratic Party. She loved antiques and going to auctions. Elaine enjoyed Christmas and decorating for Christmas. All of her fellow teachers looked forward to her Christmas party. Elaine loved to spend time with her grandchildren and attend their functions. Survivors include her husband Don of Sioux City; 3 children: Pamela Donelan and her husband Mark of Sioux Falls, SD, Don E. Petersen and his wife Cindy of Mitchell, SD, Susan Hammond and her husband Les of Sioux City; her brothers and sister: George Padrnos and his wife Eleanor of Yankton, SD, Richard Padrnos and his wife Donna of Boulder, CO, Patricia Borgen of Slidell, LA; 4 grandchildren: Jennifer Fischer, Patrick Donelan and his wife Kim, Jessica Hammond and Jeff Petersen; 4 great grandchildren: Catherine Fischer, Abegail Fishcer, Ava Donelan and Jack Donelan. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, a sister: Betty Becker and her husband Max, a brother: Dennis Padrnos and a brother in law: Ivan Borgen.
