Stephen Olson

Stephen Olson, age 64, of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at a local hospital. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 28, 2015, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Reverend Gregory Hanneman will officiate. Visitation will be 4 PM to 8 PM, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel where the family will be present from 6 PM to 8 PM, and a prayer service will be held at 7 PM. Stephen Arthur, son of James P. and Frances L. (Kruck) Olson, was born October 25, 1950, in Sioux City, Iowa. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1968. He attained a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting at Briar Cliff College. In 1974, Steve became a partner with his brother in James P. Olson Company which later merged with Interstate Mechanical Corporation. On August 12, 1972, Steve was united in marriage with Paula Vogl at St. Mary's Church in Spirit Lake. Three children were born to this union. Steve and Paula made their home in Sioux City before settling in Sergeant Bluff in 1987. Steve was a member of the Elks Club and on the board for the Sheet Metal Contractors of Iowa. He served six years in the Iowa Air National Guard. Steve enjoyed golf, boating in Okoboji, grilling, spending hours by the pool, working on family projects, playing cards and rooting for Iowa and Iowa State (when they were winning). He had a passion for sports cars and cherished the time spent with his family. Steve is survived by his wife Paula Olson of Sergeant Bluff; three children: Erin Schuetz and husband Jon, Megan Hunold and husband Wes, and James Olson and wife Holly, all of Sergeant Bluff; six grandchildren: Hudson, Lawson, Landen, Kellen, Madelyn, Grady and nieces and nephews. His mother Frances Olson, and brothers: Rich Olson and wife Judy, and Tom "George" Olson and wife Geri, all of Sioux City. He was preceded in death by his father.
