Vila L. (Hughes) Hilbert, 88 of Sioux City passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at a local care facility after a long illness. Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Akron, IA. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Tuesday with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Vila was born June 29, 1926 in Pukwana, SD; she was the daughter of Velmar and Mabel (Olson) Hughes. She married Freeman Caskey November 15, 1945 in Sioux City, he died March 3, 1964 in Sioux City. Vila owned and operated the Cushing Café in Cushing Iowa for many years and then moved to Claremore, OK in 1981. She married Fred Hilbert May 19, 1984 in Claremore, Ok, he died July 4, 2013 in Claremore. Vila loved her family dearly, they were the world to her. Also she enjoyed sewing, crafts, reading and playing cards and rummikub. Survivors include her 3 daughters: Vida Kunkel (Darrell) of Sioux City, Trudy Stonebarger (Larry) of Claremore, OK, Cheri Kurtz (Gary) of Correctionville, IA; 2 sisters: Ona McSperritt of McComb, IL, Nita Ashmore (Roland) of Lincoln, NE; 1 brother: Vernon Hughes (Normagene) of Sioux City; 8 grandchildren: Scott Kunkel (Diane), Tammy Craig, Tracy Wriedt (Edward) Melissa Vanderhoof, Rebecca Stonebarger, Brant Kurtz (Alison), Justin Kurtz (Larissa) and Cody Kurtz; 18 great grandchildren. Vila was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, her brothers: Ordway Hughes, Velmar Hughes Jr., Rodney Hughes and Jim Hughes, a sister: Louise Girard. Pallbearers will be Brant, Justin and Cody Kurtz, Scott Kunkel, Edward Wriedt and Dan Caskey.
