SIOUX CITY | Robert H. "Bob" Moritz, 90, of Sioux City died Sunday, March 22, 2015 at Whispering Creek Memory Care. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Rev. Daniel Rupp and Rev. Richard Ries concelebrating. Burial with military honors will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Kingsley, IA. Visitation with the family present will be 4-8p.m. Tuesday with a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Robert was born April 27, 1924 near Remsen, IA the son of Heyo and Florence (Heckenlively) Moritz. He attended rural Arlington No. 1 School and graduated from Kingsley High School. Bob attended Wayne State College in Wayne, NE. He served with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II from 1943 until 1947. On April 23, 1949 he married Bernice E. Burke in Kingsley, IA. The couple made their home in Sioux City where they raised three children, Patricia, Joseph and Catherine. Bob was employed at Wilson Trailer as a sales district manager for 20 years. For 13 years he was a stockbroker with Payne & Weber. Bob had a passion for nature. He was a member of the Loess Hills Alliance and the Loess Hills Audubon Society. He belonged to Friends of Stone Park, Iowa State Master Gardeners and the Interpretive Center Discovery Garden. He also served on the Woodbury County Conservation Foundation. Bob was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife of nearly 66 years, Bernice; 3 children and their spouses, Patty and Robert Berry of Chicago, IL, Joe and Margaret Moritz of Lincoln, NE and Cathy and Robert Menke of Sioux Falls, SD; a sister, Twyla Jorgensen of Laramie, WY; 7 grandchildren, Ryan Moritz, Amy Kassebaum, Betsy Berry, Michael Berry, Stephanie Grzebielski, Patrick Menke and Catie Menke; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Glenn Moritz. Pallbearers with be his grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Zales, Dr. Chuck Johnson, Herman Schultz and Curtis Ott. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center or the Loess Hills Audubon Society. Bob's family would like to thank Whispering Creek Retirement Community, Synergy Home Care and Hospice of Siouxland.
